BBA # 26 Portuguese Sweet Bread

This is the 26th recipe of our challenge, time does fly, 26 already! This is a sweet bread ,rich with butter, eggs, sugar, soo it's gotta be delicious!! The recipe is a simple sponge starter, then made into a dough, rise, shape, rise ,bake, nothing difficult. The loaves, or rounds get an egg wash which helps to turn them a rich brown color, the sugar content creates most of the color.I had no problems with the method, other than ,not by choice, letting it rise till triple instead of double. the shaping was easy ,a round, let rise then bake. The crust was a thick layer of rich brown, although it did not taste burnt, but to me almost. The crumb was lite and tender, due to the high fat content, and just slightly sweet, here I would have preferred more sweetness.Toasted, it is awesome!
 Let's make some bread!.........

  1. Looks good! I've had my eye on this recipe for a while. I'm attempting to bake them all too, but most likely out of order because we just don't need any celebration-type breads at the moment. Love the step by step photos

  2. Beautiful! I may not get to this one until next week due to a weekend out of town and some business travel, so it's nice to get your post as a preview.
